Let me send a special shout out to Michael H. Price, across town at The Fort Worth Business Press. He laid down some kind words about PingWi-Fi in his column at:
http://www.fwbusinesspress.com/display.php?id=8628
In the piece, Price recounts how he, two other colleagues and I all sat in on an interview with blues legend Willie Dixon. For the uninitiated, just about anyone who is anyone in British blues/rock credits Dixon as a key influence — starting with Led Zeppelin and on through the ranks. He was a big deal, and I was a young college kid. But, it was a good start to a fun gig. Later interviews included The Clash, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc., and now some 20 years later — Buck Dharma of Blue Oyster Cult … which I promise is up next on the site.

I learned much when I crisscrossed the country in 2004, blogging in all those cities. One gem is this — if you go against the popular opinion in media – even if you state the obvious – the media will turn their back on you. You either get on board, or kiss your positive media coverage goodbye. No matter what they taught me in journalism school and no matter how much journalists strive to be objective, everything they see, hear and report is siphoned through a big old, 120-250 pound, biased “carbon filter.”

Porno-Schmorno! There is no question, among reasonable adults, that pornography is bad, stupid, degrading to all humans and has no place on a plane. But should an airline police airspace for nasty MySpace pages and worse?
Yes! … just as soon as airlines outlaw romance novels, magazines, DVDs and pencil/pads with which pervs might draw dirty stick figures.

“Welcome to starting a new business, Mr. Ping.” Hah! … Do I think this site will take off? Certainly. Will it be anytime soon? Who knows. But, rest assured until those sponsors beg to be on my site, there is a contingency plan for survival. In fact, in the interest of full disclosure, my accounting staff has advised me to post the “Top 10 Alternative Sources of Cash Flow for PingWi-Fi”:

So, have you ever walked into a place and realized immediately that it was way too cool for you? That’s exactly how I felt when I stepped inside the swank lobby of the Aloft Chicago O’Hare hotel. Instantly I felt as though I should have tried to sneak a martini shaker through security at the airport just for this place … ha … and I don’t even drink. But by the looks of the bar, I trust Aloft is fully equipped for all of your needs in that regard.

It occurred to me that everyone may not have the time to look through this growing body of work, to piece together the objectives and features of PingWi-Fi. So, posted below is the news release from the PR team. It seemed to get pretty good play in media around the country. So, this should break it down a bit …
Wi-Fi Blogger To Ping Wireless Hotspots, Announces New PingWi-Fi Site
PingWi-Fi has completed field testing a travel blog to explore U.S. wireless connectivity, and today it announced the site is live at www.pingwi-fi.com. (Road tests and test flights included ‘war driving’ in New Mexico, Texas and Florida, unaffected by Hurricane Ike.)

In sports, on any given Sunday, the lowest ranking team might rise up and hand you your star quarterback’s head on a plate. Anything can happen. It’s why you play the game – fantasy or otherwise.
In PR, it isn’t supposed to be that way. Every day, you are supposed to put your game face on, and get the best players on the field and execute.

For my previous roadtrip, I handed out t-shirts that were supposed to look similar to a game jersey. But, on the back, rather than my old #14 or ocho cinco or whatever, the jersey had the number 802.11. To the nerdoratti of the world that is the universal IEEE designation for Wi-Fi.
