PingWi-Fi — Drumming Up Rock Legends Deep Purple To DimeBag

March 31st, 2009 · Tags: Arts · Cities · Satire · Wi-Fi

This is my second cross-country travel blog in search of all things Wi-Fi. The two trips are similar. But, if there is anything missing this time, it is the lack of opportunities to just sit and visit with locals.

Yesterday was a nice exception.

In Fargo I was driving around, snapping a few photos when I noticed a nondescript building on 13th Avenue — during the snowstorm — because of the black and white sign on top. It caught my eye because of the crazy logo — a dinosaur standing near a rock ‘n’ roll drum kit. “Prolly my kinda place.”

Here in Fargo, I am guessing we will be taking our Wi-Fi on the ground, with a hot and delicious beverage.  But others may be taking to the skies.  So, enjoy this bit of news from our friends at American Airlines:

AMERICAN AIRLINES ANNOUNCES DOMESTIC EXPANSION OF AIRCELL’S GOGO INFLIGHT INTERNET SERVICE

Wi-Fi And Snow Drifts — With Moxie, In Fargo

March 31st, 2009 · Tags: Cities · Coffee Shops · Wi-Fi

The snow continues here in Fargo, although the Red River is on the decline.  (The experts predict another crest in the river in mid-April …)  Meanwhile, I-29 south of Fargo was just closed due to snow, blowing snow, more snow and visibility of zero.

PingWi-Fi Locates Wi-Fi, ‘Distant Relative’ In Waterlogged Fargo

March 30th, 2009 · Tags: Cities · Coffee Shops · Wi-Fi

It wasn’t until my travels took me all the way to Fargo, N.D., that I encountered this phenomena.  I have read about it, and seen corporate news releases that warned it was going to happen.  Yes … in Fargo, I encountered two Starbucks that were out of business

FargoDome Sandbaggers Prep For Red River Throwdown

March 29th, 2009 · Tags: Cities · Politics · Wi-Fi

Despite what the song says, I can’t drive “my Chevy to the levee” and I can assure you it ain’t dry anyhow. Here in Fargo, N.D., all eyes are on the Red River — a much different animal than the branch that separates Texas and Oklahoma. Here the waterway is a beast, at least this week as the residents brace for impact of flooding.

Would The Player Have Saved The Mother-In-Law?

March 28th, 2009 · Tags: Satire

Okay … I can’t hold my tongue any longer.  I have to comment on the “news story” getting so much hype on the TV news channels.

IF the reports I heard are correct, an NFL player was pulled over for running a red light and then driving recklessly to the hospital.

AFI Dallas Film Festival Is Rolling

PingWi-Fi Headed To Fargo, Where Rivers Are Red, Safety Is Orange

March 27th, 2009 · Tags: Cities · Satire · Wi-Fi

So, what started out as Ping Dirty Jobs II became Will and Kent’s big truckin adventure. For my next wet and non-Wi-Fi project, my colleague and I are headed to Fargo, N.D. to take on the Red River … or actually to help out as businesses and residents clean up the aftermath from her swollen rage. The river’s flooding is said to be the worst since the 1890s.

Aftermath — now there’s a word that needs a better PR firm. It is only used these days after a hurricane or flood or other disaster. Yet, once it was the name of a Rolling Stones album … I digress.

So, Fargo, What up, ay, ya know?

Wi-Fi Planet Details Southwest Airlines Plans For Wireless

March 23rd, 2009 · Tags: Airports · Wi-Fi

He’re a nice piece from one of my favorite editors — Naomi Graychase, from one of my favorite sources, regarding my favorite topic (Wi-Fi) on my favorite airline. Life is good:

Southwest Airlines Tests In-Flight Wi-Fi

Through the month of March, Southwest Airlines is joining the ranks of air carriers trying out in-flight Wi-Fi service for passengers.

Entire article at:
http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/news/article.php/3811691

The no-frills airline with its laid back seating system and sunny employees, is experimenting with Wi-Fi hotspots on four of its aircraft. Details about which routes will include Wi-Fi-enriched cabins are unavailable, but the four equipped airplanes will be flying through the Southwest system, giving passengers on a variety of routes the opportunity to hop on the network and try it out. “Wi-Fi Hot Spot” signs will let travelers know that they’re on-board an aircraft with Wi-Fi.

The service will be offered for free during the testing phase, in exchange for answering a customer feedback survey. It will then become fee-based (at a rate to be determined) if the project gets a green light.
