The commercial launch for PingWi-Fi.com was in November, a press conference hosted by San Francisco International Airport, but we have been up and running the blog for one year now.
How we doin?
Well, at the get-go, I said that I would consider the first year a success if we attended one and only one event … that being Burning Man in Nevada.
I missed it again this year … so that BM is still on my wish list.

The first two nights out on the town in Louisville included a threesome of young women for a good cause … And the second night out included a concert on the banks of The Ohio River featuring Cracker.
Batting a thousand here in Sluggerville, if I don’t say so myself.
But … how about a Wi-Fi roundup? After all , that is my purpose in life.
Okay. I am on hotel #3 in L-Ville. My first stop was Spring Hill Suites, the Hurstbourne location:

Sup?
I seek out and ping Wi-Fi hotspots all over the country. It’s what I do. Likewise, I am always on the lookout for music. On my second night out in Louisville, I so scored some righteous tunes …
Here is how the deal went down. My hotel is actually in Indiana, just across The Ohio River from L-Ville. As I drove across the bridge toward Kentucky, I noticed a large crowd gathered at river’s edge — near the Louisville Bats’ minor league home, Louisville Slugger Park:
Sluggers’ Home
Mothlike, or maybe more like a bat out of hell, I steered toward the bright lights.

Ping, Perks Of The Job
There has been only one time that I have regretted taking on my new “dirty gigs” assignments. (If you haven’t been following along, I have been working in disaster recovery to fund my ongoing addiction to travel for Wi-Fi’s sake.)
A recent gig required that I stay in Winston-Salem, N.C. rather than return to my boyhood home in Texas for the annual community barbecue.
For only the third time in my life, this year I missed the Oldham County Roundup in Vega, Texas. One day late, I wrapped up in W-S, then spent one day in Fort Worth, before hitting the road to Kentucky for another job.
Get this … I am now in OLDHAM County, Kentucky … Louisville to be exact, on the banks of The Ohio River. Quite a coincidence … this two Oldham Counties thing. So anyway, something about being in Oldham County makes me feel right at home here in L-Ville. But there’s more.

Finally!
I have boarded many a plane since the introduction of Wi-Fi in the sky … but apparently I have been leaving and landing in the wrong cities — no Wi-Fi to be had.
Until Sunday, traveling from Winston-Salem … to Atlanta … to Dallas.
But first, have you ever been stuck on a plane next to a network marketer — those artists previously known as pyramid scheme fanatics? Ha! I have.

Sorry it has taken so long to post a new blog, and also, how absent-minded of me to leave up the download Ode to PotTAY. Apologies.
My Dirty Gig adventure continues, having just finished a two-week stint in a building nearly destroyed by fire. Just a few days ago I left Winston-Salem, where I met some new friends in the disaster industry. To recap, one is an overly energetic citified cowboy from Phoenix and the other is slow-talking southern wit from Georgia. Both are good at what they do, and they have given me lots of pointers.

How Many Hands?
Does A Bear (blank) In The Alcove?
Having taken myself out of the lineup in the PR world in order to blog, inadvertently, I find myself doing ‘dirty gigs’ on the side for sustenance. And every stint has unique challenges — much more so than my former life behind a desk in the business world.
PR was filled with papercuts and backstabs … my new line of part-time work is filled with OSHA training, safety harnesses, hardhats, respirators, etc., etc. Sometimes the challenges are more basic.
In both lines of work, I have met some interesting people.

Although my first taste of Winston-Salem was somewhat of a walk on the wild side, my second take was all apple pie.
Leaving the Hells Angels back at the hotel to do what they do, I stumbled upon Trade Street in the downtown area of the twin cities. Very cool. There are several art galleries, bars, an Irish pub … and fortunately for me, one night there was also a street festival.
