Once again PingWi-Fi blogs anew, on the road, because of a disaster. This time it is a man-made event near Washington DC. Enough said.

Once again PingWi-Fi blogs anew, on the road, because of a disaster. This time it is a man-made event near Washington DC. Enough said.
Here’s the good part …
Across the border from The District, I was out in Maryland today when I struck up a conversation with the assistant manager of an 84 Lumber location. To my surprise, he did not know of one of the best bands in the last 20 years — perhaps THE biggest name in Americana music — Wilco. In fact, NPR called them “the best live band in America.” (Proof NPR should stick with music and not politics, but I digress …)
“What, you don’t know Wilco?,” I asked. Now, I chuckle. This new friend did give a glowing recommendation to the venue based on one performance he had seen at Wolf Trap — RiverDance … Go Irish! Woohoo! In his defense, his girlfriend drug him to the show … Anywho, Wilco plays D.C.’s storied Wolf Trap on Tuesday … and yes … the PingWi-Fi roadtrip will include the show. We actually called ahead for once for media credentials and everything is set … IF “The Dirty Gig” doesn’t get in the way. Here’s more on the venue in Vienna, Va.:
Yet another cool social networking site … Have you checked out My Modern Metropolis? (See link below.) There are lots of fantastic artists there. Ha … but, we put our stuff up anyway. Here’s our first slide show on M3 from the travels of PingWi-Fi … Texas to Thailand …
I was in a funk the other day, so I decided to get out and do something different. Otherwise … I might not have gone. Ha … that thought has been replaying in my mind.
The event itself was fantastic. For months I have been reading about the coming of a new dog boutique and lounge in Fort Worth — Wag. I love their idea … their logo … and their tagline: “Come. Sit. Stay.” (I might add “Speak,” for the true coffee shop experience … just saying.) There were free drinks, a tent full of fun Fort Worth types, the TCU Cheerleaders, SUPERFROG!, and a special live performance by American Idol finalist, Fort Worth’s Tim Halperin. That part was so cool.
There is no question a writer can “be too close to” their work … or any “artist” can be too close … So, although I think this site is pretty easy to navigate, you never know.
Therefore … for your ease, if you are interested, we have compiled a family-style buffet of PingWi-Fi entrees for a samplin’. Hope you enjoy … (If you should choose to play along, this will keep you busy for a bit …) And … if you are somewhat familiar with this blog, feel free to make suggestions of any blog posts that should have made the list. Thanks!

Know what I sayin?
The good life is filled with more and more knowledge every day … for me, especially in regards to music.
No wonder I have hit it off with a new couple of music fans – John and Melanie. He teaches economics at TCU but was first identified as a potential BFF when I saw his alter ego The Who, The Clash and The Jam stickers on his laptop at Starbucks. She teaches as well …
Yoga has been in our toolbox since 2003, but not in a very organized way. Typically, we do lots of stretching and a few embarrassing body twists but not even a namaste. We’re in it for the physical benefits … nothing spiritual about it — at all — for our purposes anyway.
However, the other night we left the confines of the PingWi-Fi Balcony Worldwide Headquarters and private yoga studio and attempted to play well with others. Ha … yoga as a social networking tool. There was even sweet acoustic guitar work from Summer Dean in the background. What a concept.
The “Dirty Gig” — the disaster recovery job that pays a portion of the travel bills for this blog — has once again taken PingWi-Fi to Florida. There wasn’t a blog from the other recent visit, but just a few months back we were doing our thing at Kennedy Space Center … adventures ranging from an insider’s view of a space lab designed to grow potatoes in space to an actual rocket launch. But … we were pretty tight lipped about the space center, for obvious reasons.
This time the Dirty Gig took us to Miami … to The Doral Golf Resort & Spa just outside Miami.
Always on the go, sometimes it feels like a vacation when I get to sleep in my own bed … or when I blog on my own Wi-Fi hotspot and have coffee on the balcony under the pecan tree … or fire up the barbecue grill overlooking the two other residences in my little compound.
I was communicating ribs to the neighborhood the other day, via smoke signals, when my neighbors got the message. They are great neighbor and they complimented me on the BBQ aroma. They are very conversational too. Always so nice … polite … and always so complimentary. I am so lucky. (I am a pretty good neighbor myself, since I am gone months at a time …)
The BBQ chit chat continued and proved to be a perfect segue for an interesting conversation.
My neighbors — get this — are convinced I am a spy … or an assassin … or whatever is worse.
In the immortal words of Chevy Chase, “Toy boat, toy boat, toy boat” (recited whenever he got tongue tied …) Anywho … Here is a little Internet chatter about one of our favorite places in Austin — SquareRüt Kava Bar on South Congress — the very first kava bar in Texas. SRüt (note the funky UT in root) will have free Wi-Fi, free food, free kava and all sorts of carryin’ on Sunday, 3 to 6 p.m., for their grand opening.
See ya there?
Also, this is the second most embarrassing thing I did today …
