PingWi-Fi Report: Bullet Points Of Twitter – Ping, Ping, Ping

January 18th, 2011 · Tags:Arts · Satire · Wi-Fi

I heard a definition of Folk Art once that explained it as an attempt, by someone who is not formally trained in art, to create art — regardless.  Ha!  Guilty as charged.  I have been known to muck around with some art, yet no one has ever accused me of being very educated.  My creed: “Uh, I like it.”

In the world of high-tech gadgets, you read about these guys who make super-duper high powered Wi-Fi antennae out of a handful of metal washers and a Pringle’s Potato Chip can.  That’s not Folk Art.  Well, I have never done that, but I did make an “electric drum” out of a tennis ball can with a microphone in it.  That’s Folk Art.

Lately, it seems I have been trying to incorporate gunpowder into my palate.  Longtime readers may recall the Christmas video a couple of years back.  The PingWi-Fi folk art team filled a huge pickle jar with colored Christmas lightbulbs and water.  I ain’t gonna lie, they actually looked pretty cool when backlit, bobbing and floating and jangling around.

And what did I go and do?

Well, I marched myself over to the PingWi-Fi WindFarm with my Pickle Bulb artpiece.  I balanced it inside an old livestock water tank, sat up my video camera … and I blew the hell out of it with my shotgun.

Folk Art!

Well I was wearing my creative beret again yesterday, and apparently some camo, when I was messing around with video.  It seemed like a good idea at the time … to make some sort of promotional piece about @pingwifi on Twitter.  You are on Twitter right?  After some video tinkering, I was happy with the visuals but needed a soundtrack.  For availability, the gunfire recorded on my iPhone seemed like a natural.  Voila!

If you don’t know, and you are wondering about tweets — why am I so excited? … well, pun intended,  “bullet points” is a good way to explain twitter.  Tweets are life’s little insignificant and random bullet points.  I’ve been known to fire off a few of those.  And, occasionally for the Twitter challenged, I scatter a few on this blog … a sampler, if you will.

Let me know what you think and feel free to follow. Tweets from @pingwifi:
