Rare Book Store — DFW Boasts THE Legacy Books

After reviewing Wi-Fi in 50 cities & counting, the thought occurred, “Hey, why not take a look at wireless Internet in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex?“.

Yes, why not?

So, we have done a few Wi-Fi test runs at the new Omni Hotel in Fort Worth at night, with more in the works for that venue. Meanwhile, today the pinglets drove over to the “Dallas North Forty” … Plano, up near the edge of Denton County.

There has been some hoopla about a bookstore up there that opened last Fall — Legacy Books (the only location in the entire country).  Check out:

Well, it was a bit of a haul from Fort Worth, but well worth it, especially if you are into reading more than 140 characters at once, like the Twitterati seem to be …

Legacy Books is one of the most refreshing interiors we have seen in all of our travels, especially for a bookstore. Tall, dark, perfectly stocked book shelves mingle around on multiple clean, airy levels. As with most stores these days, there is a sandwich shop and caffeine stop on the first floor. Legacy serves up Peet’s coffee, the Berkeley, Calif. Brew. Good stuff.

On one of the floors i noticed something unusual.  The padding under the carpet is almost spongy.  Is this a clever ploy to entice the shopper to stand around just a little longer.  The soft floor is easy on “the dogs.”  Ha … it made me want to throw somebody down and “rassle.”

On the first floor I noticed something else.  You see them everywhere these days — changing tables for infants in the men’s restroom.   Can I just say i know that is probably part of building codes these days, and certainly vital to be politically correct, but … what a waste of funds/square footage.  Take it from the father of three … I never changed a bottom in the men’s restroom.  I say we do away with the silly idea, and instead take that money and dedicate it to economic stimulus … Regardless of the impact, it would be money better spent … ha … and quite possibly more enlightened that what the Pelosi regime has concocted … I digress …

Quickly, more on the public décor — lots of leather couches, study tables, café booths, bar chairs and even some comfy round couches in the stacks. (The round cushions look just right for serving your partner grapes, as you read … but I didn’t see none of that.)  Our team parked on bar stools on the top floor, overlooking the shopping center and a patch of about 60 acres of winter wheat, just across the Dallas tollway.

We made ourselves at home, firing up the laptops like we do and cracking open the backgammon board for some friendly wagering.  I must warn you, there seems to be some sort of Bermuda Triangle effect at work in the store.  One game of gammon included 7 acey-deucey rolls (a1&2) … more than I have seen in any single game … I digress.

So what about Wi-Fi? … I mean, that is why the Ping entourage traveled to northernmost Dallas.

At Legacy, my Dell back-up laptop detected two networks — sharing duties in the split level bookstore. Both were open networks — inviting users to “swim at their own risk.”  But, the signal was strong and free and I ain’t one to let a little security issue stand between me and updating my Twitter posts.

Cool and comfortable, hip modern surroundings, lots of titles and more electrical outlets than I have seen in any Wi-Fi hangout yet …  Legacy is quite a good read — 6 pings.
