Brian Duncan closes in on Northwestern QB Watson

We will continue to tweet live from the pressbox and the sidelines of the inaugural TicketCity Bowl, here at the old Cotton Bowl in Dallas. It is halftime, with Texas Tech leading Northwestern 24-6.

BTW, The Old Cotton Bowl pressbox has not one but three Wi-Fi hotspots up here … color me impressed … wish the speed were a little faster — 6 pings.

I won’t lie.  It gives me a scare every time a tackle is made at my feet, and I get a little camera shy.  My hat goes off to the guys who take a lickin and the camera keeps on tickin.  So far, no impact.  There is something about Texas Tech football.  Every time I have been on the sidelines, the action has come right to me.  Two days ago at the Armed Forces Bowl, I couldn’t get anything to happen in front of me.

I would be remiss if I did not say that the attendance is less than stellar.  More than half the stadium is empty … perhaps a symptom of two programs whose season could have been much more.  But … it is Tech football, so we are stoked.

Also, I took note that I haven’t seen any of the old Texas Tech guerilla branding – no pirate flags and no Team Leach shirts to honor the former coach of Texas Tech … Mike Leach … still a touchy subject here in Texas.  I did however, hear lots of Tech fans taunting the Tech player who, with his famous ESPN dad, were smack dab in the middle of the firing of Mike Leach.

Regardless, kudos to Coach Tommy Tuberville of Tech for getting to a bowl game.  He didn’t make the mess that ensued at Texas Tech … he inherited it.  I would not want to have been in his shoes this year.

Hats off to Pat Fitzgerald of Northwestern too … The Wildcats seem a little out-manned … but they are gamers and lots of hard hitting going on.

All Tech fans were worried to see #20, linebacker Bront Bird hobble off the field in the first half with a knee injury.  But initially, on the sideline, it didn’t look too serious as the trainers sprayed and wrapped the knee.

One last thought from the sidelines … Tech Quarterback Taylor Potts made what I believe is his first collegiate TD reception right in front of me … I’ll post the video later.

Back to the field …

Know what I sayin?
