This just in from our friends at the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, which will be played this season in Dallas …

FORT WORTH – Dallas Cowboys great Drew Pearson will be the honored keynote speaker at the 2010 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Team Kickoff Luncheon, presented by Armed Forces Insurance and the Omni Fort Worth Hotel. The luncheon will honor the bowl’s competing teams and coaches and will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, the day before the annual postseason college football bowl game.

Drew Pearson played for the Dallas Cowboys as a wide receiver under legendary coach Tom Landry. The original bearer of the number “88” jersey, his choice in number has since been followed by other notable Cowboys such as hall of famer Michael Irvin and most recently, Dez Bryant.

Pearson is perhaps most remembered for a catch he made in a 1975 divisional playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings. Down 14-10 with one minute and fifty-one seconds left in the fourth quarter, Pearson was the recipient of a mid-field pass thrown by Roger Staubach that resulted in the game-winning touchdown. During a postgame interview Staubach referred to the pass thrown in desperation as a “Hail Mary”, coining the term still used today.
