The King & Wi-Fi: Fast Food, Fast Connection

Don’t tell me there is nothing new in Wi-Fi.  Today in Exton, Penn., I encountered the wireless wonder at a Subway and at The King’s place too. (So is Jared a computer geek, in addition to being a dork?)  I am sure there are lots of SWs and BKs that have W-F, but I ain’t seen ’em.  Back to that in a second …

But first, speaking of fast food, I hoofed it over to a Mickey D’s near my hotel, because I thought Ronald and Co. had implemented Wi-Fi chain wide.  Nay not so.  The McDonald’s near Uwchlan Avenue and Pottstown Pike didn’t have Boingo, Wayport, AT&T or Wi-Fi of any flava.

However, the McD did have a young man at the counter — Wi-Fi enlightened — who told me that Burger King a block away has Wi-Fi.  And he added, “They are better anyway.”  I kid you not.  Lesson for corporate America retailers?  Install Wi-Fi … your customers are asking for it.  And sometimes, the old customer/employee interaction is a bad thing …

By the way, does anyone know how that McDonald’s lawsuit thing turned out?  Several months ago, the new wave pioneers Devo were suing McDonalds because of a Happy Meal toy.  “Are we not litigious?” Maybe I can cover this topic in the upcoming interview (tentatively) scheduled with Devo.  I digress …

Devo vs. McDonald’s

So anyway,  the Burger King in Exton has Wi-Fi, as my mc-learned friend advised.  They even have a big sign on the door, all invitin and representin.  I accepted.

Burger King in Exton has a relatively good signal, surfing along at 36 mbps … no passcode, no splash page … Have it your way — four pings.

Speaking of splash, I deducted one point on the the ping-o-meter because the roof was leaking near the counter at Burger King, and no one even thought about wiping up the mess or puting a bucket under the leak.  I first detected the puddle in a booth, also under the drip.  I thought someone had an accident …

(Hey, I have been doing dirty job cleaning stuff all week … I have developed a keen eye for cleaning and safety.  Plus, who doesn’t love a fastfood line without a waterfall?  The kid at McDonald’s was doing a better job for Burger King than the actual crew.)

Know what i saying?
