The Wi-Fi God Is My Co-pilot

“What a small world” is not a cliche.  It is a truism that applies pretty much every day … seems like.  This morning, I was standing in line at an American Airlines gate, checking a bag to Cleveland.  (I am going there for some Wi-Fi and also a little “Dirty Jobs”-like action.)

I heard a voice, “Kent?”

No, it wasn’t God, but close.  It was his emissaries — the drummer from my church and his wife.  I just saw them on Sunday, when one of the two sat directly in front of me at church.  Before the service, we discussed the exploding career of their son — who plays guitar in the rock band Green River Ordinance … or GRO to their faithful.

The proud parents were headed to Akron to see the band play and to celebrate the new CD release.  (Dad is quite the drummer and played for a band called The Penguins and some others … once touring with Rick Derringer, and others, if memory serves …)

Anyway … I may be doing night shift on a little side project — don’t know yet.  Or otherwise I would consider traveling to Akron for the show.

I am happy to report that Boingo — another friend — also met me at my gate and I got a strong signal and quick upload for this uplifting little tale.

Quick deviation from the norm — for the first time ever at an airport, the American Airlines folks just called my name too.  Dang … I feelin special today!

They asked me if I would mind trading seats on the flight, so they could better accommodate a mentally disabled person.  I couldn’t resist.  I quipped, “Sure … as long as it isn’t the pilot.”  Boo!

A GRO family sighting and excellent Boingo service … even a better aisle seat — 6 pings.

Know what I sayin?
