In The Event You Have Questions – PingWi-Fi.com News Release

It occurred to me that everyone may not have the time to look through this growing body of work, to piece together the objectives and features of PingWi-Fi. So, posted below is the news release from the PR team. It seemed to get pretty good play in media around the country. So, this should break it down a bit …

Wi-Fi Blogger To Ping Wireless Hotspots, Announces New PingWi-Fi Site

PingWi-Fi has completed field testing a travel blog to explore U.S. wireless connectivity, and today it announced the site is live at www.pingwi-fi.com. (Road tests and test flights included ‘war driving’ in New Mexico, Texas and Florida, unaffected by Hurricane Ike.)

“It’s said that football dynasties ‘don’t rebuild, they reload.’ PingWi-Fi is reloading. PingWi-Fi will seek out all things wireless – roadtrips and air travel — including Wi-Fi hotspots, Wi-Max technology, 3G connectivity, global positioning systems, handheld devices and more,” said blog pioneer D. Kent Pingel. “I’ve explored the wireless Web from Puget Sound to Key West, and we expect major changes in the Wi-Fi landscape. The downsizing of Starbucks hotspots, for example, will have a significant impact. But there will be surprises and lots of fun on the road.”

PingWi-Fi will review Wi-Fi venues including cafes, hotels, airlines, ballparks, resorts, concerts, Chryslers, museums, trains, ferries, buses, national parks, trade shows and more. Pingel will test ‘road warrior’ gadgets – flip phones, BlackBerries, laptops, notebooks, iPhones, projectors, GPS units, BlueTooth headsets, printers, cameras and more.

The new site includes sponsorship opportunities, travel reports, wireless reviews, photography, celebrity interviews, humorous blogs and even a section dedicated to imaginary rock bands … “no reason.”

Pingel achieved Blogosphere notoriety, including “Best of the Web” from Forbes, for his first Wi-Fi blog. For that project, the journalist logged 18,000 miles during a 43-city tour. The PingWi-Fi route will be announced at an upcoming launch event – to include the entire United States, and then expand abroad.

“A survey released this week indicates European Wi-Fi growth is surpassing this country,” Pingel said. “I am looking for THE perfect hotspot. If you know of a cool hotspot, ping me. I’ll ping you back.”

ABOUT PingWi-Fi:

The PingWi-Fi blog, www.pingwi-fi.com, is designed to explore, utilize and report on mobile connectivity — a fundamental of contemporary society. The blog content focuses on wireless technology as its “common denominator” – including a variety of technology and service providers. Additionally, the subject matter includes travel stories on the road and in the air. PingWi-Fi will report on-location at cultural hotspots that may feature wireless communications – film festivals, sporting events, rock concerts and more. The project is designed to canvass The United States in one year.
