Well Played, Google Number Crunchers!

Here at PingWi-Fi, we have been viewed by persons in 14 countries around the world, in this our first month. “Welcome” to the gentleman from Finland. Shout out to Singapore. And props to India, New Zealand and everyone else.

Hmmm … anyone know exactly how many countries there are these days? Barack, you or Governor Palin care to weigh in?

Anyway … have you played with Google Analytics – my new source of endless statistics? Oh my gosh, I hate numbers, graphs, benchmarks and other statistical “gold” … but I’m not gonna lie. I am hooked. You can slice/dice the numbers just about every conceivable way. Best of all, it makes me feel really smart. I mean, I must be smart and maybe even important … after all, “I have my own research department now.” I jest. If you have not checked it out, take the tour at http://www.google.com/analytics/

Google gave me another grin the other day. On the first day that Google AdSense started magically injecting ads into the layout at pingwi-fi.com … I saw the weirdest thing.

The Ping Web site is all about nerdy computers, laptops, handhelds, GPS, 3G, WiMAX, 802.11, spicy chicken wings, and that sort of thing. So why in the world was there an advertisement appearing on the site featuring hand bags?

Can anyone tell me, please?

Ha … I figured it out. The Web sorcery that is Google read the content of this site, looking for key words and phrases.

Well … the other day when I was blogging about my start-up mode and the effort to inch forward until the sponsors come to their senses … I used the innocent phrase: “beg, borrow or steal.” When you look at how we pieced together a trip to Florida using Travelocity specials and a borrowed Ford 250 4-wheel-drive diesel, King Ranch Edition … while living on Little Smokies and fresh figs … well … the phrase seemed to fit the bill.

Just let me tell you, mister. Google went nuts over the phrase “beg borrow or steal” and soon we were selling purses here at PingWi-Fi. It seems there is a phenomenon called “BAG Borrow Or Steal” – known to executive women everywhere – that will lease you a purse just like it’s a ragtop, leather interior Jaguar. What a concept … rent-a-purse with attitude at a fraction of the cost.

So anyway, for those of you following along at home who wondered about the tasteful fashion accessories seen here on this veritable away-from-home shopping channel … that’s the scoop.

And of course there have been some pretty cool ads on the various pages: GPS units from Dell … A Pizza Hut ad that spins like the dial on a slot machine … A photo of “the braided one” Willie Nelson for the upcoming South Padre International Music Festival, ringtone ads featuring Graham Harrell of Texas Tech, the most prolific passer in college football … and last night’s fave — an ad with Steve Carell promoting The Office. “Well played!” Say, it is against company policy to check this out now … but for later, here’s the link:
